Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced that his administration has transformed agriculture through institutional reforms, creating a structured agribusiness model that creates jobs, supports farmers, attracts investors, and strengthens the state’s internal revenue base. He made this statement at the second Oyo State International Agribusiness Summit 2025, held at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan. The summit, themed: ‘Expanding Oyo State’s Economy through Agricultural Industrialisation’, brought together stakeholders, bankers, industrialists, and development partners from across the world.
The governor unveiled the :Grown in Oyo State Certification Mark:, a stamp of authenticity for agricultural produce cultivated in the state, promoting quality, transparency, and a modern agribusiness ecosystem. Makinde also listed Oyo State’s potential for agribusiness investment, citing abundant arable land, a young workforce, proximity to Lagos, and emerging industrial hubs with infrastructure and security. He assured investors of a government that listens, responds, and partners, with a commitment to policy stability and continuation.
The governor emphasised the importance of industrialisation for inclusive economic growth, noting that Oyo State has focused on agriculture as a key driver of its economy. He cited achievements, including infrastructure development, youth and women in agriculture, research-driven production, and financing and investments. Makinde’s innovation attracted commendations from dignitaries, including the Ambassador of Belgium, Pieter Leenknegt, and the Consul General of Denmark, Jette Bjerrum, who promised further partnership to boost the economic value chain.
Oyo State has made significant strides in agribusiness, with the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) driving agro-based industrialisation. The state is expected to collaborate with regional and global trade instruments to access global markets. The summit was attended by the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, Secretary to the State Government, Olanike Adeyemo, and other dignitaries.
